It's a 15-watt component, adding five watts equals a 30% rise.

Consider undervolting or just limiting power? That seems odd for a gaming laptop. Your CPU (a Ryzen HX series) can hit up to 130W, stays on full speed without throttling, gets extremely hot but doesn’t cool down much, and uses liquid metal cooling. It should still thermal throttle at least, though it usually caps around 103°C. I did PBO -20 which helped a lot overall, but it still reaches about 103°C.

It's quite demanding on the older Lenovo machine. The i5"U" processor struggles with high temperatures, often throttling sharply around 65°C. To maintain smooth performance, especially during intense gaming, I needed a powerful laptop cooling solution to keep things around 60°C. Otherwise, frame rates would drop significantly.

I remember being in a store once and paying attention to what people said. They mostly focused on the size of the laptops, which makes sense given how big they are today. It also helps explain why modern phones are so large—customers want them to be easy to hold and use. The huge screens and battery life issues are pretty common complaints.

elitebooks perfectly matches the audience they aim to reach. I've witnessed one endure a harsh impact in a car door while remaining fully functional (or at least barely so). yet it stays compact and stylish enough for a high-level business setting. its design focuses on handling light tasks consistently, with all necessary connectivity. it's also built to be easily repaired and can handle spills effectively. the webcam includes a privacy control, speakers and microphone are decent, and the backlit keyboard is user-friendly. if you purchased that earlier marketing line, they offer a privacy mode that narrows display angles to around 15 degrees for secure document viewing. I also noticed a pitch for medical desktop displays with similar features, but it never gained traction.

I believe it’s just a protective layer... I’ve noticed "privacy screen protectors" even on monitors. So... would it get warm when off but still connected for charging? A simple way to check if it’s the CPU (unlikely but possible) or the battery (more probable and worrying...)

It can be turned on or off, featuring a keypress button. However, it seems HP realized those privacy screens are inexpensive and straightforward enough that the extra cost isn’t appealing to most buyers.
