The laptop fails to start even after installing extra memory.
So i have a laptop with 4gb on one ram slot and 4gb soldered ram, and i was getting rid of dust from my laptop so i remove the "expandable" ram and reinstalled it but now it can't boot unless i remove the 4gb dimm from the slot. I was just wondering, how do i know if my ram stick is dead or if the slot is dead so i know if i should replace the ram or not? Thank you.
Check the socket for any signs of damage. Were you using too much pressure when removing or installing the RAM? The RAM is usually quite durable. It might also be due to a need for a fresh CMOS—search online for instructions on clearing your laptop’s CMOS. Once installed, reset it and test the functionality.
I noticed no visible signs of damage to the socket—no bent pins or any other issues. I’m not sure if I used too much force while removing and reinserting the RAM, but I also didn’t think I applied excessive pressure. Clearing the CMOS by draining the battery and holding the power button didn’t help, even after reinstalling it.
