Hey everyone, my partner has an old laptop that’s been running Windows 8 for a while now. When she first got it, it was still using Windows 8, even though she insisted on upgrading to Windows 10 somehow. Even after refusing to do so, it managed to upgrade itself. But once it switched to Windows 10, her favorite game, Sims 4, stopped working. Whenever she tried to launch it, the computer would crash and restart repeatedly. The only way to get it back was to press the power button and then turn it back on after it shut down. I’ve tried several online fixes, but nothing helped. Plus, the system felt very slow and took a long time to load. That’s why I recommended a fresh install of Windows 10. We did a clean install from a USB drive yesterday. After restarting the computer multiple times for driver updates, it ran much faster and was more stable. We then tried installing Origin and Sims 4 again. Both still froze on the launch screen, forcing us to restart the laptop repeatedly. I posted some troubleshooting steps online, but so far we haven’t had any success. Two people suggested checking the manufacturer’s drivers, so I went to the official AMD site for graphics card drivers. She installed those, but the moment she logged in with her account, the laptop would freeze instantly and become unusable. I’m confused—does this mean the issue is with the game or something deeper in the system? Any advice or suggestions would be really appreciated. Maybe a fresh install could help? Thanks for your time.

It's a HP Pavilion. Unfortunately I do not have it in front of me currently so I am waiting on my girlfriend to provide me with more info if she can.

Certainly, most of it was structured except for a small section that represented a recovery.

Typically after upgrading to Windows 10, you can choose to go back to your earlier operating system (Windows 8 or 7). However, since you performed a clean installation, that choice won’t be available. I understand that though. Older devices like my gateway weren’t designed for Windows 10, and there are many drivers it doesn’t support. Luckily, I managed to locate all the original drivers from my manufacturer and install them, which helped restore functionality. What is your exact laptop brand and model?

Sorry, we don't have access to the device to gather more details. The laptop lacks product data and the packaging is missing. Based on what we see online, it appears to be an HP 15 6-inch Pavilion notebook from Amazon.

Flip the sticker to check what’s written. Typically with Windows 10, a fresh install is possible even after a clean setup. The main issue is accessing the system. I’d consider starting over with a new installation.

It could make sense to create a bootable Windows 8.1 USB drive and switch back, even if Windows 10 appears as the current option.
