The laptop experiences frame rate drops every 1 to 2 seconds.
Hey there! Happy holidays! This might be the least ideal moment to share updates if I want quick feedback, but I ran out of ideas while browsing online. The problem I’m facing is that on my MSI GL65 9SE, every game I launch behaves in the same way: it runs at a steady frame rate until it stutters every 1-2 seconds. When that happens, the game drops its normal frame rate to around 30-40%. Although most titles maintain their speed, it’s still quite obvious. For instance, WoW Cataclysm Classic would normally run at 144 FPS, then fall to 80-90 FPS every 1-2 seconds. My computer isn’t the standard model—my hard drive is replaced with an SSD and I’ve installed two 32GB RAM sticks, which are running at 2667 MT/s. The system stays connected to a second monitor at 144 Hz, but this issue also occurs without the display (the screen itself runs at 120 Hz). I have the newest drivers available (Windows 11, NVidia, Intel Driver Support), and even with the latest specs—2060 processor and i7 9750H—I still see this problem. GeForce Experience says most games should handle Max or near-Max settings, but they struggle at medium or low levels. It seems my GPU might be treating it like a desktop rather than a notebook. I noticed the stutter mainly when playing Elden Ring. After resetting the laptop, it improved a bit, though there’s still a small delay. Someone mentioned that mismatched refresh rates between two screens can cause this, but changing to 120 Hz on one screen didn’t help. I also tried using the 144Hz setting instead of 120, but the issue persisted. This happens whether I’m connected to a monitor or not. I’ve read about people reporting similar issues online, but no clear solution seems found. My system runs in "Ultimate Performance" mode and stays plugged in all the time. I disabled Gamebar once to see if it helped, but that made things worse, so I went back. I’m bringing this up because it’s very specific—if anyone has a workaround, it would be a huge relief. Thanks in advance for any tips you can share. If you need more details, just let me know. Otherwise, I might have to wait a few more months before upgrading my hardware.
Reinstalling windows appears to resolve the problem significantly. Appreciate the support from everyone involved!
