The laptop doesn't enter suspension or sleep mode on Ubuntu.
Hello everyone, I’m considering switching to elementary OS or Ubuntu fully, but a few problems are stopping me. First, my laptop doesn’t power down when I close the lid—it keeps spinning, drains battery quickly, and when I reopen it everything freezes, the backlight turns on but the screen goes black. Second, Amazon Prime and Netflix can’t load Full HD videos; they’re stuck at 480p. Third, the audio from speakers is significantly worse than in Windows, and only two speakers work by default, though I managed to fix that with a solution here. My machine is an HP Envy X360 with a Ryzen 3500U, and I’ve tried updating to kernel 5.9 with UKUU. Are there any ways to resolve these issues?
Manjaro offers many GUI choices and personalization options, I have no doubt you'll enjoy it.
I've been investigating this matter over the past few days. My research focused on Linux AMD laptops and their performance with the new Ryzen processors, which brought up the Sleep problem. It appears to be a widespread concern tied to Ryzen CPUs and their sleep-related behavior, with AMD showing awareness in some forums. I came across several user discussions and admin notes confirming the issue has been recorded. So far, no solution has been posted, and it seems AMD might still be working on a fix. Hope this clears things up!
