It's going to differ from game to game, but gun to my head—textures should definitely be pushed to their limit first. My sensitivity to lack of shading and contrast is high; older, pre-AO titles now seem flat to me. Shadows/AO need to be set to low or similar.

Quality of Texture. Small resolution images bring back memories from the early 2000s. I play at 1440p-4K, so anti-aliasing isn't a major concern. The shadows look good, but I didn't really notice the distinction between Normal-High and Ultra Shadows. I'd choose 5 fps any time.
