Before I break something, I have a brand new MSI MAG Z690 with a i9-14900k… this might be a dumb question. But there is two 8 pin CPU plugs, and I have only one CPU plug on my PSU… Can I use a 8 pin splitter without damaging anything? (Pictured) I WILL NOT BE OVERCLOCKING!

Only one component should be filled in. It might be the left side, but make sure it’s correct—this part is only needed if you intend to overclock and draw more power than the connector supports.

The motherboard activates when only one 8-pin connector is connected, making these connectors unreliable. Considering the 14900K's substantial power draw even at default settings, I’d prefer both 8-pin connections regardless of PSU capacity. If your PSU struggles to support it, switching to a 14700K would be a better choice—it handles power more efficiently and requires less input.

It's an uncommon choice for a contemporary high-output power supply to feature just one EPS 12V output.

Thanks! I've assembled several PCs without running into this issue before. I didn't see any warnings, but I wanted to be sure. I'm planning a PSU upgrade next month and was looking forward to it.
