Please help! Just bought new b650 am5 mobo,7700x, dddr5 ram and gen 4 m.2 SSD to go with existing 3090, PSU etc.
Pc posts as normal (apart from not recognising old sata m.2 ssd) with display port cable in mobo. As soon as I stick it in the GPU I get no display and have to force shutdown the pc as when swapping it back to mobo port nothing happens. Pc detects 3090 and have installed drivers in windows. If I try to start pc with display port in GPU it doesn't post... Or maybe it does but I can't see. Tried hdmi as well. Thanks for your help

I don't have a specific make or model for my PSU. I also need to confirm whether the 24-pin and 8-pin connectors are securely fastened on both the motherboard and the power supply unit.

Thanks for your reply. It's a ROG 1000w I've been using for a year. Yes all connections have been checked.

Using the onboard video, attempt to update your motherboard BIOS (unless it's already the latest).
If not, proceed with a hard reset and try again using the 3090.
Steps:
Power system down
Remove all power connections (power cable, display, powered speakers, etc.)
Remove the motherboard battery
Press the power button to discharge any remaining power in your components
Wait a moment or two
Reverse the steps – battery connections
Power on.

I've already attempted this. It wouldn't be necessary to post initially. I had to perform a USB flashback using the latest stable BIOS and repeatedly clear the CMOS during troubleshooting.

When you take out the 3090 completely, the system appears to function correctly in other aspects. What model is your motherboard?

Everything appears to function properly except for the old M.2 SATA SSD, which I've seen online suggest might need a CMS replacement before proceeding, something I can't do without a GPU. The model is a B650 Mag Tomahawk WiFi from MSI.

Is the BIOS unable to recognize the SSD? Which M.2 slot does it reside in?

They mentioned that the bios don't recognize it, even though they used the lower models. The new drive is in the top slot and is detected, but it's a gen 4 pcie connection, not the older sata type.

Check the motherboard manual. You have three M.2 slots. Determine if the SATA SSD is in M2_2 or M2_3. If it's M2_2, consider switching to M2_3.
