I recently purchased the HP Pavilion gaming desktop featuring an AMD 6-Core Ryzen 5 3500 processor, a GeForce GTX 1650 Super, and 8 GB of RAM. As a newcomer to PC gaming, I’ve been testing games on both my PS4 and this PC. For example, Fortnite often lags on my PC at 60 frames per second and 1080p resolution. However, videos about this PC before my purchase praised its performance, showing smooth gameplay around 120 FPS. I understand they suggested upgrading the RAM—possibly from 8 GB to 16 GB—but I’m curious if there are other ways to boost FPS so it runs at 60 FPS without issues. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Are the RAM modules 1x8GB or 2x4GB? It's best to use two matching sticks for dual channel performance. Also, keep in mind that many of these OEM systems offer very limited BIOS choices. What current speed is your memory operating at? You might not be able to change it through the BIOS settings. That means the BIOS will be responsible for determining the speed.

The system you purchased is quite power-limited for a gaming PC. Upgrading the memory to 16 gigabytes of 3200mhz or higher RAM could make a noticeable difference. Switching to a Ryzen 5 3600x or 5600x would also significantly enhance performance compared to the Ryzen 3500 processor. If budget constraints prevent upgrades, consider running the game with lower graphics settings. Search for "how to optimize" videos on YouTube for your specific title and follow the recommended guides to boost your FPS. Adjusting settings like turning off v-sync, lowering shadow quality, ambient occlusion, and anti-aliasing can help, though effectiveness varies per game.

I think it's 2x4 GB sticks, but I need to open my PC to confirm. That's something I was thinking about for upgrading the RAM and SSD.
