I recently upgraded from a 3080 to a 5070 Ti. At first, everything appeared normal: I ran Superposition, Furmark, and OCCT (with and without undervolting) and didn’t notice any crashes or visual problems. However, the following day began to appear issues:
- Periodic screen flickering at the top
- Visual glitches such as a corner of an image freezing or text misalignment briefly
- Toggling HDR results in random static flashes on my 3080, whereas it only briefly cuts to black on the 5070 Ti
Video demo in slow motion
- The system froze twice while playing Deltarune, necessitating a hard restart
- Zenless Zone Zero and Honkai Star Rail: sudden gray screens followed by a crash to desktop, plus audio drops, though no full system failure
-
Occasional brief white screen at the bottom
- CPU and GPU temperatures remain within normal ranges
I experimented with undervolting initially, but even at default settings the problems continued. I returned to my 3080 and all these issues vanished. I reported the first 5070 Ti for replacement, which functioned properly for a day before the same issues reappeared.
Things I’ve already tried:
- DDU and various driver versions (latest plus older)
- BIOS update and reset to defaults
- Switched HDMI to DP
- Reconnected PSU cables, reinserted RAM
- Tested both undervolted and stock GPU configurations
One point to remember when setting up the first 5070 Ti was accidentally breaking the PCIe lock on the slot. The card remains securely placed and is supported by an anti-sag bracket, but could this be contributing to the problems? I wonder if the 3080 would behave similarly.
The freezing appears to be a power supply concern, yet I’m using the same cables as with my 3080, which operates stably.
Specs:
- CPU: Ryzen 7800x3D
- GPU: EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 / Gigabyte Windforce RTX 5070 Ti
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX
- PSU: Corsair RM850x
- RAM: 32GB DDR5
- Monitor: LG 32GS95UE
- OS: Windows 11
At this stage, I’m quite puzzled. Any suggestions? Are others experiencing similar problems with the 5070 Ti? Could it be that both my cards are defective?

It makes sense why you felt it was powerful because the 3080 handled nearly 800 Watts compared to the 5070 Ti's 700 at max. You might want to test the system on another screen?

Consider adjusting the PCI slot speed to Gen4 directly in the BIOS if that doesn't resolve the issue. If it still doesn't work, move to Gen3 and verify again.

Thanks for the feedback. Yesterday morning I reinstalled my 5070 Ti and didn't notice any crashes or issues throughout the day. I configured the card to 3000MHz @ 0.970v +1000 and completed several stress tests, which appeared to perform well. This morning, however, I encountered a gray screen right after launching a game. I attempted various fixes—restarting the PC, changing the monitor, adjusting PCIe settings—but nothing resolved it. I managed to trigger the issue consistently by playing a YouTube video, starting a game, and then opening Discord. Do you think this suggests another problem rather than a GPU issue? I’d be open to testing it on another system if possible, but right now I don’t have access.

So I didn't have a completely different PC, but I replaced the motherboard with an i7-10700F, updated the RAM, and installed a new Windows copy on a spare SSD. For a short time it worked fine. I encountered gray screens again after resetting the GPU to default settings. Now I think it might be related to the GPU, power supply, or software problems. I'm considering borrowing a friend's PC for testing, but I'm unsure what else to try.
