Most cable providers in the US run Docsis 3.1, and versions 3.0 and 3.1 can coexist on the same network. My region has been using Docsis 3.1 for some time, which likely will be the next generation modem I receive when Comcast offers another speed boost as I approach the maximum supported speeds. This should keep the setup working well for a long period.

I think it's similar in the UK, but each version gets a different speed tier.

For gigabit speeds you'll need D3.1. Check if the cable company requires a different number of channels for that performance. D3.1 covers all speed options, making it a more reliable choice since you won’t need to upgrade it soon.

They restrict personal modems but often provide bridge functionality, making it manageable. They also didn’t install a cable on my side of the street.
