You're looking for a way to adjust your I/O shield without finding a perfect match. You've tried an emory cutting wheel on a Dremel, which caused heat and sparks, and you're considering tin snips, which might not be ideal. Here are some alternative approaches:
- Explore local electronics stores or salvage yards for older motherboards that might accept your shield.
- Check online forums or specialized communities for DIY solutions or modified shields.
- Consider using a precision drill bit instead of cutting tools to make clean holes.
- If you're open to upgrading, look into modern shields that are compatible with 990FX boards.
Create a 3D model and send it for printing. I've done this several times. Look at the link for inspiration: https://www.thingiverse.com/search?q=990...t=relevant
Great suggestion, though... Sadly, it's an ASRock 990FX Fatal1ty PROFESSIONAL. The Pro version is what causes the issue. Plenty of good I/O, but not as widely available as the others. Plus, I'm on an island and can't get help from anyone with a 3D printer.
Hey! I hadn't considered using a chisel. Stamping could be an option! Thanks!
In fact, it looks very similar to this motherboard. You can also explore 3D printing options, which require minimal cost for materials and work (though shipping could add expense).
