The I/O shield isn't properly seated.
Hello, I recently purchased a case from montech (air 903 max) featuring a dual chamber for the Io shield. During installation of the z790 tomahawk pro motherboard, it didn't fit properly. All standoffs were positioned correctly, but the motherboard manual advised removing the Io shield and placing it inside the case—however, it still didn<|pad|> to fit. I experimented with different placements but couldn't get it to work. If anyone can assist, I would greatly appreciate it.
Occasionally a small push down is needed frequently to align things
Is it difficult to place the IO shield into the case or the motherboard inside it? You need to apply more pressure than you realize is necessary to fit the shield, and getting the motherboard into the shield may require some adjustments.
I applied several downward pushes, but the issue persisted. I noticed on Reddit that many people faced similar challenges with cases and motherboards that include built-in shields, yet no solutions were mentioned.
Avoid applying pressure from the inside out; steer clear of the very edge as it requires slight flexing to set properly. In tough situations, you can bypass the IO shield. Be mindful when connecting devices to the motherboard without one.
The shield with my motherboard is mostly flat on the sides, unlike the others. This might explain why it doesn’t fit properly, and it could also be a contributing factor. The dual chamber style is unclear and poorly implemented. From the outside, the shield couldn’t fit because of the gap between the case exterior and interior, and inside the case it’s bigger than the opening. I believe the size variation stems from the flat shield design.
I can't upload or display images directly. Could you provide the pictures yourself or let me know if you'd like a description of what they show?
I'm currently away, but I can share some images I found online. You might notice the shield hole coming out slightly inside the case about 2-3 cm.
Reviewed a few build videos with that case; it seems the IO panel is pressing against the hidden opening. They just drop the board in and secure it. Make sure yours fits properly.
