Hi, usually my connection is around 500mbps. Recently something changed: when I join a game’s online servers, my speed drops to just 9mbps on my PC. The rest of the house works fine, and I’ve checked the router and all outlets several times. I’m using an Ethernet connection, so please help me out.

Check for background updates from your game distributor, such as Steam.

Game updates often require significant bandwidth. Check the active downloads area to confirm there are no other background activities downloading. Microsoft Updates is frequently responsible. Try restarting your network devices such as switches, gateways, and modems. Also, please clarify how you're testing these speeds.

I checked every available download option, but there was nothing visible behind it. All the equipment was restarted and the issue persisted. Using an online speed test tool, I compared results and found they were consistent.

Do you have a paid VPN service available and can you join one before attempting again? I've noticed occasional issues with specific packets disrupting the connection, which is uncommon and likely due to a glitch.

Which game is involved? Which server are you attempting to link to? Are there any tools built specifically to adjust or enhance Ethernet/network performance? For example, The Killer app along with its driver for certain rebranded Intel NICs. Consider pausing only the application to determine if the issue resolves.
