Hello. I recently moved into a new flat and arranged for internet service. When a technician arrived to set it up, he informed me that someone else is already connected. He mentioned that the current provider isn’t permitted to disclose details about the previous one or take any steps to notify the old provider. Could there be a way to discover who the former service was? Thank you. Edit: I pay rent; the flat isn’t truly mine, and my landlord isn’t aware of the previous internet provider.
You decide what steps to take based on your location. The most straightforward option is to ask the landlord about your internet setup. Explain that you attempted to connect and were informed you already had one. If you purchased the property, it’s yours—ask the mechanic to install your plan instead. Don’t bother with old solutions.
If the modem supports WPS, use that method to connect if your device allows it. Speaking with the landlord is also wise; they’ll understand who previously occupied the space and can inform them you’re currently paying for the internet.
It's confusing how the ISP keeps secrets about payments. Why wouldn't they reach out to the previous owner on your behalf?
A reliable landlord should keep tenant details handy. Request him to reach out to past tenants and let them know about the ongoing connection, enabling a proper termination process. Are you located in the EU or UK?
