What I have heard about the e3 is that it's just a locked i7. Not sure if this is true.
I plan on playing some games, streaming, video editing, and using photoshop.
Is overclocking really all too big of a deal, or can I get by without it?

It's a good approach to compare the 8-thread performance of an i7 with that of an i5 at a similar price. Overclocking may slightly boost game speed or cut down on rendering times, but it's not necessary for building a solid system.

Essentially that's what it's about. The OC improves performance a bit, but for most people and scenarios it's not essential—just useful if you're okay with the extra heat or power consumption to get more horsepower from the same chip.
