the highest you can achieve is an i7 7700(k), but it’s a decent chip. the i5 9600k won’t fit if your CPU is an i3 7100—you’d need to replace the board. the i3 7100 can handle games without much trouble, just not very heavy ones.

that's an i5, your question still doesn't fit. If you have a budget, check the new build subforum—people are there to assist. 9600k is still a strong chip, but only if you already have the board and RAM or it offers good value for money. The 3300x isn’t ideal for multithreading or gaming, while the 3600 is better for frame rates. 10600k might be out of reach unless your setup is perfect.
