I believe the system's capacity to handle multiple tasks stems more from its RAM amount than the CPU. Modern CPUs are powerful enough to manage background processes without major issues (suggest a quad-core setup). So basically, people buy PCs mostly because they want something trendy. That’s why I’m using the 6950X—it’s the top i7 for my setup. I didn’t have to jump from the older models just to keep up; I upgraded because that CPU was the best option I could find at the time and it was exciting to customize it, even if I don’t always use it at full capacity. I didn’t upgrade again until a better deal appeared, which was a really powerful chip. If you can afford it and think you’ll enjoy it, go for it. Ultimately, what matters most is feeling satisfied with your setup, not just chasing the technically superior option. Still, my approach might be a bit biased since I sometimes splurge on slower, cheaper gear. But hey, it’s all about having fun!

It wouldn't be "wrong" but you can get away with the same performance while also saving >200$ when going with a 10600K. The ONLY thing the 10900K has going for it over the 10600K are the 4 more cores. There is no difference other than that. Also the stock speeds are higher with the 10900K but if both are overclocked they are essentially the same in games. Video rendering, streaming, Blender renders (or other 3D software), CAD, etc... If you can say that you don't use your PC for earning money, you won't need the 10 cores. And if you would be doing these tasks a 3900X/3950X would be the better choice anyway.
Consider trying streaming, even if you're unsure about earning from it. It's a good way to test the waters!
Streaming wasn't ideal on my end. If you have an Nvidia GPU, you can still stream smoothly using the NVENC encoder with the 10600K since much of the processing happens on the GPU. You could also choose the 10700K for a bit more resource usage. The 10900K might be too much for most users, especially considering the information you provided.
Both options work well, but I’d choose AMD. The AM4 setup offers better forward and backward compatibility (though we’re unsure how long that lasts). More cores at a lower cost is always beneficial, and I’ve spotted 3900X CPUs around $410 after the XT release, which is an excellent price for 12 cores/24 threads. For gaming, the performance gap isn’t usually obvious based on my experience.
