The installation window was hidden in the Microsoft Store for Fallout 76.
I obtained the free code for Fallout 76 on Prime Gaming yesterday. This is for the Microsoft Store edition. However, I'm having trouble installing it on my PC because the installation window freezes at "Install," with the click box turned grayed out.
I've attempted the Wsreset admin command, TroubleShoot App command, and 'Reset Microsoft Store'. Other applications seem to install and update smoothly.
I also left the app open for half an hour without any changes. The Task Manager shows no network activity or other processes.
Any help would be appreciated.
The free code was presented to you in a way that caught your interest.
The content comes from Amazon Prime Gaming. Currently, subscribers receive a complimentary redemption code for the Microsoft Store version (a 25-character code).
I only recommend verifying the URL involved. Just because Amazon and/or Microsoft show up in the path doesn't mean it's the genuine site. I'll also remind you to exercise caution with any "free" Amazon Prime charges. My recent credit card statement includes an $11 charge for Amazon Music, which I wouldn't have signed up for. Please check your Amazon account.
How much unused room do you have on C? If the Windows store requires extra space for unpacking and setting up, the available free space could be very limited. I'm referring to this since my Steam installation is currently 95GB, whereas it was about 110GB in earlier versions.
717GB free.
I've been handling more troubleshooting tasks in the background, and it seems there are problems with Microsoft Game Services and Xbox app installations not being correctly linked to my Microsoft account. The Xbox app keeps showing Error 0x80070426. Win11, Microsoft Store, and Office365 services are still logged on.
I plan to try again for another hour or so, and I'll stop if nothing changes. It's just a freebie from Amazon's promotion for its new TV show, so it's not a big deal overall.
Did you ever fix this problem? I faced a nearly identical issue. (From Prime gaming through to grey boxes during installation, the only difference was in the XBox App where I received error 0x80074022). Not sure if you experienced the same, but on my first try to install Fallout 76 it asked for the file location and we switched from C:\XBoxGames to D:\XBoxGames (creating a new folder) before it stopped installing. I looked up issues, found this thread, and then gave up. However, with fresh determination the next day, I searched again, concentrating on the 0x80074022 in the XBox App and discovered a post on
Microsoft Answers. This led me to the Gaming Services Repair Tool on xbox.com. Of course, I couldn't perform any version checks or steps from the XBox App, but I scrolled down to "Downloadable version" and proceeded. After running that, I was able to open the XBox App again. Then I switched to my son's account and it confirmed the game was installing. As I type this, my D: Drive is being used, so it seems to be working. Hope this assists you too.
It took some time, but I resolved the issue by creating a Win11 install USB image using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool, then performing an upgrade with the 'retain files and apps' setting. The Xbox app now works correctly, and the game is downloading.
