Hello, you're looking to set up Linux on your older machine without dual booting. Since you have limited space (32 GB eMMC), wiping the drive is a good idea. Installing Lubuntu won't lock you into it long-term—Windows can still recognize the license key if needed later. If you ever want to switch back to Windows 10, the key should remain intact.

Upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 won't work, but using a retail key for Windows 10 will fix it

If your MS account is already logged in on that machine, the corresponding key should be connected to the right account. Don’t stress when you install Windows—it will prompt for the key, just ignore it and finally sign in to your MS account so everything works smoothly!
