It seems MSI has confirmed their 400 series boards will work with Zen 3, but other makers are still unclear about the update. Should we assume everything is fine or could some boards be left behind? I’m checking since I’m using a basic ASUS board and haven’t heard back from them yet. Unsure whether upgrading is necessary.

It seems everyone expects the B450 to align with Zen 3. If not, they’ll probably face strong criticism and likely still back it up.

The higher-end options are more likely to receive 4th generation support, while the lower-priced versions might get it later.

GamersNexus reported that Asus was the only company stating they wouldn’t mind AMD discontinuing support since they plan to build new boards compatible only with Zen3. Be prepared for potentially weaker support for older models. However, there are updates available—AMD claims you can download beta BIOS versions that include Zen3, but reverting might limit access to Zen2 and/or Zen1 support depending on your motherboard configuration, dual-bios setup, or the size of your BIOS chip (32 MB vs 16 MB). The exact details may vary based on these factors.

Ya the support sounds terrible. When he said that according to the bios progammers that this is a difficult process and there is a much higher chance of bricking the board, plus that it would be problematic if you update bios and it is unstable and now won't work with any zen chip, then it is up to the motherboard manufacturer if they would offer warranty. I almost get a headache thinking about how many day one "dead motherboards" there will be. Almost like how problematic the first few months of Zen 2 motherboard bios stability was and the very vocal group of people complaining in the first week how their b450 tomahawk black screened. I wouldn't update to Zen 3 unless you wait 6 months for all the bugs to work itself out.
