Hello everyone. This is my first time here, please let me know if I've made any mistakes. I'm experiencing issues with my CPU and would appreciate some expert advice.

Regarding my computer setup: CPU is an Intel Core i7-9700K (3.6GHz) with 12MB cache, upgraded to 5GHz via BIOS MOBO. It runs on an ASUS PRIME Z370-P II ATX motherboard with USB 3.1 and SATA 6GB RAM. The GPU is a 32GB HyperX Predator card at 3000MHz XMP (2x16GB). I have an 8GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 with multiple outputs. The SSD is a 500GB Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" drive with SATA 6Gb/s speeds. The power supply is a CORSAIR 750W CS series modular unit with Gold Cooling.

I'm facing problems only after installing Call of Duty Modern Warfare from Blizzard. I'm running the game at near maximum graphics settings, excluding RTX and motion blur plus shadows. Before taking this screenshot, it was hitting 100% usage and causing significant frame drops. This is even worse during the campaign, where I'm getting only 10-20 FPS on the first mission. My main question is: is this normal behavior for an i7-9700K at 5GHz while playing a game? Should I lower the overclocking?

Additionally, if I swapped my MOBO and CPU to AMD, would I need to reinstall Windows on the new hardware? Please advise. Thank you for your time.

It seems the CPU has just eight threads, while the game demands more than six threres. That’s actually typical. However, the GPU utilization looks unusual. I recommend running DDU and reinstalling the GPU drivers.

What level of detail is being used? The graphics card is operating at a specific setting.

Did you connect your screen to the mainboard or the graphics card?

It honestly sounds like either you're running the game off the iGPU, or there's something wrong with your video drivers. 80% is too high usage for a 9700K at 5GHz. I get around ~30% max while playing with a 9900K, so the 9700K should be slightly higher than that, not nearly triple.

I tried this myself—it's one of the reasons I'm puzzled and wondering if something is off. My GPU never reaches even 20% usage for this game; it stays at 1440p and 144hz, never going above 20%, usually around 5% or less. I completely reinstalled the graphics thinking they were the issue, but nothing worked. Fun thing to note: I can play Doom Eternal nonstop at full settings with over 60 FPS. Possibly it's a game problem, not my hardware.

When you watch 1440p, it's typical for your CPU to use around 20% of its capacity.
