If that is the case and the paste has never been re-applied (refurbishers might re-apply but can't say for sure), re-applying the thermal compound (that too, a decent quality one) should significantly improve your thermals. There is no direct fine and not fine distinction. It's a range. But if it isn't reaching PROCHOT limit (thermal throttling limit, usually around 97 C), then it is far from "not fine". Undervolting is a good idea. Start with -100mv and keep going down slightly. WIth experimentation, your system will crash so make sure not much is open and that Windows background tasks aren't doing anything, or boot into safe mode. It will just lock up or a BSOD. A hard shutdown using the power button and restart should be fine.

I didn’t grasp that section. If I overvolt too much in -mV, I’ll see BSOD or the system will freeze. But how do I then start up normally with normal/previous settings? It seems the system or the undervolt software might have saved the last values, pushed them too far.

When Windows VBS is turned on, ThrottleStop can't write or read from the CPU voltage control register. Microsoft prioritizes safety over gaming performance. The ThrottleStop FIVR window lets you choose whether your undervolt settings are saved, so you can confirm stability before saving. For testing undervolting, instruct ThrottleStop not to save settings until you're sure your system is working properly.

@unclewebb so just apply -100mV to core and CPU cache, save and that is it? Nothing morw to set before/after it in TS? But friends if temps are completely fine and there is no risk of damaging laptop I would not mess with TP at all.

If your BIOS lacks this option, you can activate it through the ThrottleStop TPL window—just look for the Speed Shift box and apply. You’ll see SST displayed in green on the main screen. Skip checking the EPP settings; they’re not needed. In the FIVR window, adjust the Unlock Adjustable Voltage slider to -100 mV for both CPU core and cache. Press Apply, and the values will appear in the monitoring table under Offset. As discussed, no further action is required—just try undervolting if it helps. It significantly boosted my laptop’s usability, making it quiet and comfortable for light tasks.

Sure, I'll give it a shot tomorrow. I have a free day off work. Do you think the laptop will stay stable or avoid BSOD if I turn on Speedshift from TS and it's already set in the BIOS hidden options?
