I’m looking at an i5-3470 with a GTX 1060 and 6GB RAM. I need a CPU upgrade but can’t afford a DDR4 system that costs over 600 or 700 euros. I understand an overclocked i7-3770K could still work, but what about just the i7-3770?

It would still make sense to upgrade. A Xeon with four cores and eight threads that matches the socket would work well. The i5 struggles with the 1060 in current games, while the i7 performs much better.

It’s not just the number of threads; performance and efficiency are key concerns. The i5 3470 often struggles with multitasking and speed due to its architecture and thermal management.

Unless you can find it at a low price, it doesn’t offer much value. Around 250€ you can purchase the Ryzen 1600AF with 16GB DDR4 and a solid B450 MB. That’s about all the improvements.

I think it's not worthwhile unless you already have a solid cooler for the 3770K. Otherwise, it won't add much value compared to the non-K version. The main benefit would come from the OC, but including a cooler raises the price and makes it less attractive since the Ryzen doesn't cost significantly more. Worthiness depends on the specific situation.

I needed to move up from the 3770k. It wasn’t up to my needs for a 1080, especially with CPU-heavy titles like BF and Cod. I also faced problems running an older Titan. My games wouldn’t run smoothly if I kept using it. That depends on what you’re looking for.
