the i5-6600k cannot be overclocked beyond 4.5 ghz.
I have an i5-6600k, Hyper 212 Evo, and Corsair Vengeance LED 2x8 GB 2666 MHz RAM on a Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming 7 motherboard. Based on what I’ve learned and observed, the i5-6600k can be overclocked to 4800 MHz, while the motherboard supports RAM overclocking up to over 3000 MHz. Although it’s air cooled, there are four case fans around it and no dedicated GPU to help with cooling. Right now, the i5 is limited to 4500 MHz, and the RAM can only reach 2400 MHz. Anyone know why this is happening or what I should do to improve it?
6600k is set to 3500 by default with a 3900 boost. Reset your BIOS or use default settings. Avoid changing anything else in the BIOS except voltage and frequency (multiplier). You likely can't exceed 1.350v due to cooling limits. Set manual voltage to 1.350v and multiplier to 47 or 4700mhz. Try booting into Windows, then perform a stress test. If it fails, lower the multiplier to 4.6 and adjust your voltage accordingly. Ensure temperature stays below 85°C during testing and under 80°C during regular use like gaming.
