Hi,
I'm looking for a suitable OC without exceeding 1.25v on my i5 4690k. The best frequency I've found is 4.2GHZ, but I've tried 4.3GHZ and it crashes during startup, requiring a CMOS reset. Others seem to achieve 4.2/4.3 below 1.2v. Could I be doing something wrong, or might my CPU be faulty? My motherboard is the Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 5. Thanks.

There's much more to OC than just changing the multiplier. You have to balance the ring voltage, llc, drop all eco settings like cpu phase control, c-states etc.
I'd take a trip over to the Asus ROG forums. While the exact names might be different for your bios settings, OC of a 4690k is exactly the same theory no matter what brand mobo. There's tons of info all about OC there on that cpu, even multiple screenshots of their bios. You'll just have to figure out exactly what names are different.

Checked the forums and the provided link, but nothing helpful. Running prime95 causes my computer to crash after about a minute. It seems like the issue might be with the chip or motherboard. Feel free to share the BIOS settings if you'd like a closer look.
