You’ve purchased an i5 11400F for 167 euros and a Gigabyte B560M-H for 77 euros, staying within your 220-230 budget for just the CPU and mainboard. After watching several videos and reading forums, you’re still unsure if it will meet your needs. You’re hoping the board can support unlimited boost clocks at 4.2 GHz without throttling. Your goal is gaming with 3200 MHz RAM and a 3060 Ti. You’re aware that the current TDP is sufficient now, but you’ll need higher boost speeds in the future. The board lacks heatsinks, so you plan to use an aftermarket cooler.

It seems you're considering adding airflow to your VRMs. If you have some airflow already, you might want to purchase affordable heatsinks to enhance cooling.

Using a top flow cooler such as the Scythe Big Shuriken 3 helps cool the VRM as well.

Consider the upgrade cost and your needs before deciding. A higher-end board like the MSI Bazooka or Aorus Elite may offer better performance, but if you're budget-conscious, a mid-range option could suffice.

I invested a bit more in a higher-quality motherboard, but that's my style. Likely a better BIOS and improved I/O too. Comparing the two models shows a noticeable gap in IO performance, stronger VRM, and more RGB options if you're into that. The $25 price difference is already covered by the cost of USB hubs.

Can I run an EKL Alpenföhn Brocken ECO on my old CPU and it work well with the i5 11400?

Has no prior knowledge of that cooler, yet at first glance it appears sufficient. Seems to match a Hyper-212 standard, more than enough for an i5-11400. Both boards should function, but the second model offers better value for storage performance.

The Aorus would set me back 103 euros, minus 77 euros, but I think it's hard to avoid it. What do you think about the heat in uncapped powerlimit? The Aorus Pro feels cooler in PL2 compared to the Elite version? Thanks for the help!

I notice the Elite version is more recent and offers greater compatibility with PCI 4.0. You can find more details here: https://askanydifference.com/difference-...and-elite/

I’d check the 11400 section and see how many B560 models can run without power limits during a full Blender test. Most of them should handle it well, with games staying manageable. The only one that stands out needing an exception is the ASUS B560M-K. I didn’t spot the Aorus Elite there, but it looks like a stronger option than the DS3H.
