I own a 510-p007l using the HP Hamar motherboard (H170 chipset). I found on Wikipedia that H170-based boards can run Kaby Lake processors, but the manufacturer says a BIOS update is needed. After updating the firmware, I still question whether my board supports Kaby Lake CPUs for installing an i3-7100. HP claims they support upgrading to i3-6100T, i5-6500T and i7-6700T. I’m curious if non-T Skylake or Kaby Lake CPUs are compatible and if any BIOS tweaks are necessary. Help would be greatly appreciated!

The "T" line processors consume 35 watts, while the i3-7100 draws 51 watts. This doesn't fit because it's an HP model; if it isn't listed for support, it won't function properly. There are several issues: it's designed for 35 watts, so a 51-watt CPU could overheat the motherboard. The HP motherboard is built to handle 35 watts, which means adding this CPU might damage it. My recommendation? Avoid proceeding.
