I purchased a personalized HP Pavillion 15z laptop recently. Initially, everything functioned properly. However, after a Windows Update detected several driver updates, I decided to install them. That proved to be a mistake. Once updated, the system lost its ability to enter sleep mode or shut down correctly. The screen would turn off, but the computer remained active. I had to manually force shut down using the physical button, which is risky for the SSD. After some investigation, I discovered the audio driver was linked to sleep/wake problems. I ran the powercfg /energy command and found initial requests for it. I restarted the machine and tried again, but the issue persisted. I attempted various fixes—disabling fast boot, turning off hybrid sleep, disabling hibernation, rolling back the Realtek Audio Driver—but nothing resolved it. Now I’m considering returning this unit to HP. My goal is to warn others against buying this model.

Clean install windows and ensure there's no HP bloatware on there. Have you double checked all the power settings??

I verified every power configuration. I didn’t perform a fresh installation of Windows since I genuinely think I shouldn’t have to on a brand new device. If the HP software was the problem, it makes sense to return it. I wouldn’t want to deal with a company that could install what appears to be malicious software on my machine. I dropped it off at FedEx this morning.

Unless you create it yourself or pay additional fees for a custom-built laptop, most models come with a range of unnecessary software. I usually suggest a fresh installation rather than using it as it comes. Everyone’s preferences differ.
