So for a few years now I've had a reoccurring issue that I feel my PC is just underperforming, I normally run games at 1080p but I use DLDSR to upscale games to 1440p-1620p
Benchmarks say my PC overperforms in terms of the benchmark, I've used loads of stress tests, Furmark, Timespy, Superposition, Heaven's Benchmark, UserBenchmark, Blender, etc. They all point to my PC performing above expectations (I will run more tests if necessary)
In terms of gaming however, performance is.. not good. What should net me 100+ fps in most games, I'm getting around half or less compared to systems worse than mine. I want to say its poorly optimized games, but it cant be. Yes, easier games like Overwatch and CSGO are 400-500 FPS, but besides that. its really been underwhelming. Games like Elden Ring Struggle to maintain a stable 50 fps- even on low settings, The Finals also heavily underperforms, like 80 FPS on the lowest settings mostly (worse systems get 120 fps stable)
I don't have an idea what the issue is. I've RMA'd my, CPU, went through support hell with Nvidia (couldnt even tell me what gpu they were trying to help me fix SMH) Reformatted windows 4+ times, reseated every component, bought a new power supply, new ram.. nothing. Gpu and CPU optimizations are very low as well, and i cant seem to find a solution to any of this 2+ years later. System does not overheat in any way shape and form. Any help is greatly appreciated.
System:
GPU: RTX 3070 Ti
CPU: Ryzen 9 3900X
PSU: 750w Gold EVGA Supernova
RAM: 2x GSkill 16GB @3600MHZ (D.O.C.P. is enabled)
SSD: Samsung 870 QVO 1Tb
Motherboard: TuF Gaming X570 PLUS (WiFi)
I've seen the highest temperatures around 85 degrees, which makes sense given I have a founder's edition card. I think cores 0 to 4 are the most active, and I know the 3900x doesn't offer the best single-core performance, but that's not the main issue. What bothers me is whether my GPU and CPU are getting enough power to work properly. The GPU usually runs between 200-280 watts, which is low usage, yet the FPS remains poor. That’s what’s confusing me.
It seldom reaches 80 degrees, except for tough roles or tests, where it often hits 68 degrees
sure, I've refreshed my bio, though it's still a bit anxious. I'm not sure if I should turn off a security feature, but I really don't want to remove any safety measures.
Unless you're hosting top secret government files, corporate trade secrets, or you're the political target of a government trying to silence you...you can turn most of these CPU intensive security features off (firewall and antivirus can stay). There is almost no benefit to running every single insane security feature Windows offers or even any of the ones built into your CPU, like the TPM. Its all spyware for consumers, and it only exists for people susceptible to sophisticated attacks by well funded hackers. Random dude playing Overwatch and CS2 at home is not a target.
In addition to disabling the VBS, I'd recommend turning off every single startup app, restarting your PC, and then immediately launching into a game. You may have random stuff starting up at launch that starts minimized making it look like its not running.
