Today I changed from my speakers to my headset for a game, but they aren't functioning. Adjusting the volume wheel causes loud static, yet no sound comes out. It's been a while since yesterday and they worked properly then. When unplugged, the "speakers" vanish in Realtek Audio Manager, though Windows shows sound is playing. I need guidance on steps to troubleshoot and restore functionality.

Does the headset function with another known operational computer or audio device?
Are other functional headsets compatible with your system?
Identify whether the issue relates to the headsets or remains tied to your computer.

This:
The PC was also powered down last night, so updates likely didn’t occur during downtime. The only change since then was using a wireless phone charger plugged in.
That connection might have triggered the computer to wake up...

Consider running the built-in Windows troubleshooters. They could detect and resolve the problem.
Right-click the small speaker icon in the lower right corner of the screen.

Identify whether the issue relates to the headsets themselves or remains tied to your computer.

Consider using the built-in Windows troubleshooters—they could resolve the problem.
Right-click the small speaker icon in the lower right corner of the screen.
A menu with audio-related options should appear, such as windows, tabs, properties, etc.
Don’t immediately adjust settings; observe and take notes before making changes.
Respond accordingly.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I finally understood after spending an hour thinking. It looks like someone must have unplugged them yesterday because the mic and audio ports were in the wrong jacks. Just had to flip them around to the right ones. 😅
