The green screen issue during gaming is a known problem.
Hi everyone, I'm facing a tough situation, as mentioned in the tile, experiencing green screen crashes during gameplay. There are no error messages, just a bright green full screen that doesn’t function properly. I need to restart by pressing the reset button. The crashes seem to occur either after 2 minutes or 2 hours, depending on the game, but they will definitely happen eventually. The Event Viewer displays a WHEA error labeled Fatal Hardware Error - id1, level 2. Despite this, all my components pass every stress test I could perform—OCCT, Prime, Aida, furmark, memtest. Under load, none of them get close to overheating. Here are my specs:
Specs
- MB: ASRock Z690 Taichi
- CPU: i5 13600k
- GPU: Rx 7900XTX
- RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 64GB (4x16)
- PSU: Corsair HX1200w Platinum
- SDD: WD Black 2TB, Lexar 780 4TB
- AIO: Lian Li Galahad II
What I've tried:
- Updated DDU graphics driver and performed a clean reinstall, rolled back the driver, and re-seated the GPU. It worked perfectly on another machine.
- Changed BIOS settings, switched between all three power profiles (default, Intel baseline, Performance). Currently stuck on the first Microcode bios from that whole Intel issue—about 0.25, with no clear reason.
- Enabled XMP both on and off, used four sticks but only two, adjusted VVDV, VDDQ, and PMIC settings freely.
I’m really hoping for any advice, tips, or hints to resolve this. It’s frustrating and I’m at my limit. Thanks.
Welcome to the forums and a joyful New Year to everyone! I'm currently adjusting my BIOS settings, changing between all three available power profiles—default, Intel baseline, and Performance. I'm on the first Microcode bios from that recent Intel situation, around 0.25, without any specific reason. It's recommended to update the BIOS and then reset the CMOS. To clear the CMOS, disconnect from the power source, turn off the display, remove the CMOS battery, hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any remaining charge, and then reinstall the battery after about half an hour.
I understand your question. Could you clarify what you mean by "this"? I want to make sure I address it correctly.
I experienced the same problem with my RX 7800 XT. The crashes became less frequent after adjusting the GPU's voltage, though they eventually returned. They were unpredictable and couldn't be matched using tools like Furmark. The only solution was replacing the GPU. Based on this, it seems you might need to return the product for repair.
I can only speculate. There are many users on the AMD forums discussing a similar problem, and replacing the PSU seemed to help for some, so perhaps a power management issue is involved (especially since UV appeared to assist temporarily)? In any case, your PSU shouldn't be the cause. Another possibility is faulty VRAM, as crashes only occurred in games using more than 5GB of memory. Since Furmark doesn’t heavily use VRAM and didn’t crash, it’s less likely. But if it were the GPU, it would be the main reason for green screen issues.
