The GPU isn't receiving power even though the PC is connected properly. After plugging in an RTX 2070 Super, the lights on the LED panel stay on, the fans spin briefly before slowing down and stopping, and the 12V supply seems correct.
Before the issue arose, the main concern was managing the cables. The problem started with checking the connections, as power cables are made of stranded wire—many thin wires twisted together for flexibility. This setup can cause some wires to snap if you repeatedly twist and tighten them. It’s possible a cable was damaged during that process. Updated October 23, 2022 by Bombastinator
Checked if the cable was loosely connected to the PSU or GPU. Would reinsert both and test again.
Thanks for the assistance. I replaced the CMOS battery and it’s working now. I’m not sure what the original issue was, but that should have fixed it.
This action clears the CMOS file, where BIOS updates are saved. If that resolved the issue, the likely cause was a BIOS configuration missing XMP or DOCP settings. When it worked, it probably meant the system was running slower now. On my board, I also needed to reinstall files to access them properly. It’s possible the update fixed some underlying problems. Sometimes updating the BIOS helps when automatic overclocking fails. But it doesn’t always work—sometimes you just need to manually adjust memory settings, which can be very time-consuming.
