Compatibility issues between Case & MB? Yes, definitely. Yet using a different GPU than the motherboard is uncommon—likely only with budget ASRock options. But if both PCIe speeds match, shouldn’t it work?

Manual instructions were a bit unclear. It mentions the lower slot supports X16, yet also references X4 lane graphics cards. The top slot is suggested for one graphics card, and I’ve heard that using lower slots might affect performance on certain boards. Regardless, it seems the best option here is to use the lower slot. Saves the need to replace an entire motherboard.

The data sheet indicates that the lower slot labeled "PCIE4" is restricted to x4, despite containing an x16 connector. This suggests the controller bus splits across this slot and accommodates three M2 connections. It seems unclear whether this reflects a deliberate marketing tactic or a translation error—similar to how some ASRock promotions appear awkward in other languages. The design keeps SATA connectors free from the PCI slot, positioned between PCIE2 and PCIE4. However, the official specifications don’t account for multi-slot cards. The GPU cooler occupies space the board expects to be unobstructed.

This setup is typical among many creators over time. -Claims- Two PCI-e x16 ports available, the second one is connected via cable for x4

Would it significantly affect how the system runs?

With a dual-slot GPU, it's important to choose the right motherboard carefully. It's odd how these recommendations often overlook this detail. pcpartpicker.com also doesn't flag any compatibility issues. This issue probably needs more focus. From my findings, PCIe bandwidth plays a bigger role in high-end setups, so it seems reasonable that you should be fine.

I'm not sure this has ever caused problems before. I verified my own board, which has a double SATA port in that spot, and it shouldn't affect a regular GPU—my setup worked fine then. The spacing was determined years ago. If you try pushing from the back of the motherboard tray while installing the GPU, what might happen?

I managed it finally... outside the case. I had to start by pushing the left side, then the right, because pushing the right first would direct it into the SATA port. I'm not sure if pushing left first is feasible inside the case, though. I'll give it another shot when I have time.

You confirmed the setup, but you can verify your PCIe performance by opening GPU-Z and running a benchmark. This will display the slot speed.

Some setups aren't properly fitted and it’s important to verify alignment between the board and the interface. This might be tricky to see in the photo, but it could cause issues too. Remember, you shouldn’t push the device left or right first—it’s risky and could harm the motherboard or slot. It’s not meant to be adjusted that way; the GPU should be pushed straight down at a 90-degree angle only.
