The GPU fan is changing speed frequently?
Hello everyone.
I encountered an issue with my GPU (GTX 260) overheating recently. The fan didn’t adjust properly as temperatures increased. After using MSI Afterburner, it still didn’t display accurate temperature readings, only showing a static 0 degrees.
When I switched to SpeedFan, the fan speed would increase when temperatures rose, but then drop to a very low setting and quickly return to normal. This inconsistency is based on what the fan reports, but it’s quite bothersome.
Do you think there’s something wrong with the fan or its control signals?
If this issue has been occurring recently, it might be due to a software glitch or the fan struggling to maintain the 52% speed. The fan appears to be quite old and would likely benefit from some maintenance. If other aspects of the card are functioning properly and it isn't throttling excessively, I wouldn't take any action except hoping it doesn't worsen.
The 52% speed was just an example; it varies with each speed setting. It seems like the Speed Fan could be the source of the problem. Is there a reason the Speed Fan would continuously adjust its speed?
EDIT: When changing speeds manually, the only way to prevent it from dropping again is by repeatedly clicking the up and down arrows. Is there any method to ensure the program maintains the desired fan speed?
The card is quite outdated and it looks like the fan is giving up. If you don't need or want an upgrade, you might look for third-party mods with ghetto fans. I suppose that was the intention, but if I disable the automatic fan control and set it to around 60%, it will remain stable without changing.

If everything else functions properly and it isn’t throttling, I wouldn’t take any action except hoping things don’t deteriorate further.

EDIT2: It's definitely a Speed Fan problem. I've tried MSI AB again, but it still doesn't display my GPU temperatures correctly. However, when I manually change the fan speed, it remains stable. Perhaps understanding why MSI isn't reading the temps would be better...
EDIT3: I used a tool called RivaTuner and it worked. Thanks for the warning, though I believe my GPU fan is functioning well.
