The GPU driver is crashing and resetting. Is there a hardware problem?
Recently I've encountered several crashes while playing games. I suspect it might be related to hardware problems, but maybe one of the forum members with better knowledge can assist in further identifying the issue. Here are the details about my system:
Processor: i7-8700K @ 3.7GHz
Memory: 32GB DDR4 at 3200MHz
Power Supply: 700W 80+ B rated
GPU: RTX 2070 Windforce OC
Motherboard: Z370 Gaming 5 Revision 1
Initial troubleshooting steps included:
- Reseated the GPU
- Underclocked the GPU (it's a factory overclocked card)
- Lowered the power limit for the GPU in MSI Afterburner
- Cleaned the case and internal components with compressed air, ensuring complete dust removal (including behind the GPU fans)
- Updated drivers
- Rolled back drivers
- Reinstalled drivers using DDU
Despite these efforts, the problem persisted. The issue appears to be hardware-related, though it could also stem from the GPU or power supply. It isn't an overheating concern because at full power, temperatures stayed below 80°C, and under maximum settings (59°C during a MSI Kombustor Stress test with x32 tessellation).
The only significant error I encountered was an access violation:
Exception at 0x00007FFC4AEE2F06 (WindowManagementAPI.dll) in: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x0000000000000130.
Additionally, OBS was experiencing problems, and I retrieved a log showing an encoding failure with NV_ENC_ERR_INVALID_PARAM when using 'streaming_h264'.
With this information, I'm unsure if the issue is consistent across all components, but it's definitely not related to overheating.
Which games are experiencing issues? Have you attempted to reinstall them?
Check the Reliability History for additional error codes and warnings.
Utilize the built-in Windows troubleshooters; they might identify and resolve the problem.
Possible file corruption exists: execute "sfc /scannow" and "dism".
