The Gigabyte motherboard is unable to apply the BIOS update.
motherboard model: Z790 Aorus Pro X
I followed the instructions in the manual and YouTube videos. The issue is I’m still getting the error "Not able to update BIOS file successfully." Here’s what I did:
1. Cleaned and formatted the thumb drive
2. Partitioned the drive to 32GB FAT32
3. Downloaded the BIOS update from gigabyte.com (version F5f)
4. Extracted all files to the thumb drive (manual, EFI, NSH)
5. Plugged in the thumb drive into the Red USB port and labeled it “BIOS”
6. Turned on the PC and entered BIOS settings
7. Clicked “Update BIOS” and double-clicked the F5f file
8. Confirmed with “Yes” and “OK”
9. Restarted automatically and saw the same error
Am I making a mistake? Why isn’t the update working?
Have you experimented with another thumb drive? Occasionally a computer doesn't accept a USB stick for any reason, even if it functions on other machines. Have you checked the checksum of the BIOS file you downloaded? It should show up in Qflash after choosing the F5 bios (Checksum: B7DE as I saw on the DL page). You know that a gigabyte BIOS ending with "f" is considered beta? When I updated the BIOS on my Z690 Aorus Elite AX some time ago, I saved the changes to my internal SSD and selected it from Qflash—no need for a USB stick. Also, are you certain it's a V1 board and not 1.1 or 1.2?
I don't understand why the end is marked as beta. I've looked at the bottom corner of my motherboard, it shows v1.0. I was able to verify the file, but the same message appears again. This version is labeled F4.
bios doesn't prefer filenames that are too long. If you didn't rename it to 7.3, you might run into issues. try biosF5.XXX and replace the x's with the appropriate gigabyte model.
The manual revision is located at the bottom left corner. It should indicate a simple BIOS rename like bios.bin or bios.f4.
I attempted to shorten the name to x.f4, but it didn’t work. I reached out to Gigabyte and downloaded their zip file, just like before. Then I tried bios.f4, which also didn’t work. Changing the USB drive and repeating the process still failed. Does updating BIOS require an internet connection?
Use a mini thumb drive, look for a 1-4 GB model... insert it into a USB 2.0 port if your board supports it.
Attempted 8GB thumb drive, repeating the same steps and receiving the same error. The process completed from Qflash → USB drive selection → file verification → reboot, then proceeded to Qflash itself. File reading succeeded but an error appeared.
