I just received my friends' PC and knew it had some problems, so I tried to get it running. The specs include an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, a Gigabyte AORUS B450 PRO Wi-Fi motherboard, and a 3GB 1060 GPU with two 8GB RAM sticks at 3200MHz. When I brought it home, it failed to power on due to the CPU issue. I removed it, cleaned the pins (there was leftover thermal paste), reinserted the CPU, but it still didn’t work. The motherboard lights up after powering on, but nothing happens when I short the power pins. I attempted to clear the CMOS, but it didn’t help. All connections seem correct, so I’ll test it with my PSU later using the provided file.
I understand your concern, but I suspect it might be related to isolating certain pins. I’m confident you’ve checked everything thoroughly—CPU plugged in, GPU connected, motherboard with 24-pin CPU fan, and RAM installed. Unless you missed something, that should be fine.
I notice many folks jumping to conclusions and blaming the hardware. Electronics usually fail only when handled improperly. I’d start with one stick of RAM. Remove the motherboard from the case onto plain cardboard and attempt again with better access. Would you like to test a different power supply? Edited October 8, 2024 by leclod
