My games often slow down during play. I never notice lag before, even with ultra graphics settings. Running smoothly requires lowering the graphics. The system heats up to over 90°C at startup and drops to around 60°C while playing. I've reinstalled the GPU drivers but it still doesn't work. The game titles are Dragon Age Inqusition and GTA V. My hardware specs are: Intel core-i7 4790, MSI Gaming 7 GPU, MSI Gaming AMD R9 280X, 1050w cooler, silent hybrid CPU fan, Kingston Hyper X 1600Mhz RAM, Western Digital drives including a 1TB HDD and external storage options.

No, the fans aren't spinning on the graphics card.

The graphics card might be throttling due to heat. Monitor temperatures of your CPU and graphics card during ultra gaming sessions.

This temperature rise indicates the chip may require fresh thermal paste. It often spikes above 90 degrees before performance drops once the heat dissipates.

You mentioned that disassembling your rig and cleaning it might help. Also, you noticed the thermal paste on the GPU seems too thin and dry.

I plan to try it tomorrow. Also, do you have any suggestions for the top-rated thermal paste brands?

Arctic Silver is a reliable, tested thermal paste option. You’ll find many tutorials online showing how to apply it properly.

Hey ayien312, As the guys suggested, probably the thermal paste of the GPU has gone bad and needs changing. Those temperatures are too high for a GPU and I would suggest changing the thermal paste make make sure the card is cooled properly before using it again intensively. Captain_WD.
