What’s causing Fallout 3 to fail during the loading process on Windows XP? Is there anyone who can assist me with this? My system includes an Intel Core i3 3rd generation processor and a Sandy Bridge motherboard (2100 GHz).

I understand that, but the game isn't operating within any other applications. I observed on YouTube that users reported it functioned on Windows XP. Could you provide a link to download a modification, free of charge, that would enable this game to run? Thank you for your response.

If your Steam version of the game lacks a file named “fallout.ini”, you’ll need to configure “fallout_default”. The process is identical.

Solution 2 – Installing the 1.7 patch.
I strongly advise installing the latest 1.7 patch from the description below; it addresses many bugs and might resolve your issue. If you’re using Steam, avoid installing it as Steam automatically updates games.

Solution 3 – Compatibility mode.
Right-click your Fallout 3 shortcut (create one if needed) and select “Properties,” then go to the “Compatibility” tab. Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and choose "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)."

Solution 4 – Limiting cores.
If you’ve restricted the number of cores like I showed in a video, try changing or adding the command “iNumHWThreads=2” to “iNumHWThreads=1.” This limits the game to one core and may prevent crashes.

Solution 5 – Deleting intro files.
This might work if your Fallout 3 crashes at the beginning. Locate the “fallout.ini” or “fallout_default.ini” file (I explain how in the video) and delete these three lines:
SMainMenuMovieIntro=
SIntroSequence=
sIntroMovie=Fallout INTRO Vsk.bik. Save the file, and it should fix the problem.

Solution 6 – Disabling autosaving.
Some users report that disabling autosaving can stop crashes.

Solution 7 – Resolutions.
-Navigate to your Fallout 3 file/directory and then to FalloutLauncher.
-Press Options.
-Tick “Show All Resolutions.”
-Change your resolution to your PC’s setting (e.g., 1920x1080).
-Uncheck “Windowed mode” if it’s selected.
-Start the game via Fallout3.exe

Solution 8 – Intel graphics card issue.
If you have Intel HD graphics, the game might not run due to Bethesda’s compatibility issues. If you only have an Intel CPU and no graphics card, you'll likely have Intel HD graphics. Here’s how to resolve it:
Download the file at http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mod…

Place the DLL file in your Fallout 3 directory (where the FO3 executable is located) and the .ini file in Documents/My Games/Fallout 3 (rename it to “fallout_default” if necessary, especially for Steam versions).

Method 3:
1- Launch Fallout 3 Launcher. Remove ALL anti-aliases from the graphic settings.
2- Set the game to Windowed mode.
3- Start the game and remain in the MAIN MENU.
4- Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to open Task Manager.
5- Right-click on Fallout3 in the Processes tab and select “Properties.”
6- Access the Compatibility tab.
7- Select "Windows Vista Service Pack 1" in the first box labeled “Compatibility Mode.” Fallout 3 was not designed for Windows 7, so running it in Windows XP or Vista is recommended.
8- Don't Panic! Your computer won’t change, it simply switches to the chosen operating system when launching the game.
9- Right-click again on Fallout3 in Task Manager (repeat step 4).
10- Click "Set Affinity."

Remove all CPU options except one. Fallout 3 can only run on one core; deactivate the others to prevent freezing.
11- Apply Settings for all Users.
12- Close Task Manager.

Find the FALLOUT.INI file and locate this line: bUseThreadedAI=0, change it to 1. Then add the command iNumHWThreads=2 and save the document, then try running the game. It should now stop freezing.
13- The game is in Windowed mode, so go back and Quit.
14- Restart the game in Full Screen Mode.

Method 4:
Download and install this mod from http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/20371/?

Method 5:
Change the installation path (not required for XP). Install the updated Games for Windows Live client. Make some simple .ini changes, and avoid mods until you confirm the game works after leaving Vault 101.

Method 6:
The game looks for Games For Windows Live at startup; it’s not required once the game has initialized. The outdated Games for Windows Live client included with FO3 won’t work. Get the latest Games for Windows Marketplace Client from the link below and install it (required if you bought the game through Steam).
