Hello! I've been facing this problem for a long time, and things are getting really frustrating. I've invested a lot of money in this computer, but it just won't work properly anymore. Most games I play—except for a few—keep crashing after about 30 minutes to an hour or so. It happens with every game except The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which is strange since that one is actually pretty demanding. Games like Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite, Lego Batman 1, Halo Infinite, It Takes Two, and Apex Legends all stop unexpectedly, sometimes even logging me out mid-session. It feels like a partial restart, but it only reaches the sign-in page without fully resetting. Usually, I end up closing the window completely.
I've run stress tests on my GPU and CPU, and everything looks fine. Memtest86 also came back clean. I disabled XMP settings and tried various tweaks from YouTube, but nothing seems to help. I've also done multiple system repairs and reinstalls. The only possible explanation is a bad power supply—my old one was used for years. I replaced it with a new one, but I still think a PSU issue could cause this behavior. SPECS: 7800xt Hellhound, 32GB 3600MHz Trident Z RAM, Ryzen 5 3600, MSI MAG B550, and an 850W thermalsale PSU.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
I tried a few different approaches since you've already tested everything. It might be worth checking the SSD itself as well. From what I experienced, the SSD worked okay initially, but Windows ran smoothly and games played well most of the time. However, diskmark benchmarks occasionally triggered a BSOD, and smart tests would either keep failing or freeze the software.
I'm not very familiar with this. However, based on my own experience, I used multiple programs to check SSD health—HD Sentinel, Samsung Magician, and DiskMark. I ran various SMART tests with Samsung Magician in full detail. The issue began about 3-4 months after purchase. Initially, HD Sentinel showed 90% health, then it dropped to 2-3% each day. Samsung Magician reported 99%. During stress testing with DiskMark, the software often crashed or triggered a BSOD, and the SMART tests would fail or freeze. I submitted a return merchandise authorization, and it was replaced. It has been working well so far (about a year and a half). *please don't take my word for it*
I mainly relied on diskmark to apply significant strain to the SSD, without much concern for performance. Running benchmarks repeatedly was easier than transferring large volumes of files back and forth. Consider running a more targeted test and capture a screenshot of the Crystaldiskinfo output to share here. This way, experts can assess whether the SSD is failing or if there are other possible reasons.
Think about replacing the old windows on brand new HDD/SSD since the only possible cause left is your SSD. 1. The issue shouldn’t be related to windows because you just installed fresh. 2. It’s unlikely due to heat since stress testing worked well. 3. Typically, it isn’t a power supply problem because the BIOS doesn’t crash under normal use. BUT there’s a small risk the default OC setting might trigger the crash.
Your CrystaldiskInfo results appear satisfactory. No apparent issues detected. Would you like guidance on any specific scan or further details? The temperature increased to 43 during the test.
I revised the BIOS about two months back, and the chipsets should be updated too—I did that recently too, but nothing changed, still facing the same problems. A new install might help. Could it be I'm using Windows 11 "beta" because it was the free upgrade from Windows 10? Not sure. A full reset via Windows could be useful, though it’s frustrating since I need to locate photos and videos I’ve saved there.
