The Ryzen 5500 offers poor performance for most setups, offering only half the cache compared to the 5600, while newer models provide double or more. Its PCIe3 support limits it when paired with an x8 lane GPU like the 4060, making it unsuitable for smooth gaming. Upgrading to a faster CPU would greatly improve results, even switching to a 5600 would yield noticeable gains.

The 4060 works best with 1080p at 60 frames per second. Higher resolutions won't perform well.

Ensure you're not using laptop power mode. Do you have multiple screens?

Are your games losing smoothness, freezing, or both? Stuttering often results from various factors, including a CPU slowing down the GPU. Real-time shader calculations in games can trigger this issue, which may be fixed by employing DXVK or VKD3D/Proton to store computed shaders. Poor game optimization, outdated GPU drivers, or insufficient performance settings can also contribute. Reducing FPS limits is one approach to lessen stuttering.

Considering your PSU and MU mobile setup, I suggest looking at alternatives to the 5060. The price isn’t the main concern here.

Do you know if your desktop has a laptop power setting available, especially since you're using just one monitor?

It seems like a 5700X3D model would cost around that price, wouldn't be very costly, and would last you many years without needing updates to your system.

Check the Windows power settings in the Control Panel under Hardware and Sound, then switch to High performance. It may appear inside a hidden window, often causing slowdowns but worth testing.
