Hi there, I recently got a gaming PC and was really excited about playing all the games I wanted. However, when I tried to run Bioshock, it kept crashing with an error message every time. I've checked many solutions—changing the launch folder, disabling sound except TV, running as admin—but nothing worked. I'm not sure what's causing the issue. Could you help me figure it out?

I believe there might be a problem with the audio output. Consider installing and testing a tool like Virtual Audio Cable to check if it boots properly. I’m sure you’ve encountered this issue before.

Consider testing it in various compatibility settings. The issue arose after the intro, so adjusting audio devices and enabling 'Stereo Mix' in the 'Recording' tab might help. If needed, right-click and select 'Show Disabled/Disconnect Devices' to make it visible. Ask about the specific alert that appeared during the crash.

Consider trying the alternative. The notification says the program isn't functioning properly and suggests closing it.

I first got my new computer and downloaded the Bioshock demo. It kept crashing when it started. After the holiday Steam sale, I bought all three games and Bioshock launched properly. Now it randomly crashes to the desktop, especially when autosaving between levels. Progress keeps disappearing. Still, I played them all at launch, love the series, and I just have to replay sections.

I'm using [operating system name]. Do you own the Steam version of Bioshock?

The PC Gaming Wiki released a patch for the crash, swapping the problematic .dll file with a replacement they supplied.
