Last Wednesday, I recently acquired The Outer Worlds through the Epic Games Launcher. However, each time I attempt to launch the game, it displays a brief black screen—as if initiating startup before abruptly returning me to my desktop without any error notifications. Despite this, I can successfully open other games within the launcher. My online searches have yielded no similar issues, and this is quite perplexing. Would anyone be able to suggest potential troubleshooting steps?

Details:
I recently upgraded my computer’s operating system from Windows 7 to Windows 10, and I have installed the latest version of Windows 10. I’ve attempted reinstalling both the launcher and the game repeatedly. Additionally, I have run the verification process. I’ve also contacted their support team via <[email protected]>, but they are slow to respond and haven’t offered any effective solutions.

According to the PCGamingWiki entry for The Outer Worlds, a “CtDT after black screen” issue may arise if the Windows 10 Media Feature Pack isn't installed, and that this pack must be chosen to match your specific Windows 10 build version – notably, 1903 if it’s the most recent release (from May 2019).

According to the PCGamingWiki for The Outer Worlds, a CTD (Crash To Desktop) following a black screen may arise if the Windows 10 Media Feature Pack is absent. It’s essential to choose the appropriate pack that aligns with your specific Windows 10 build version – for example, if you’re using the most recent release (May 2019), that corresponds to version 1903.

Certainly, resources such as PCGamingWiki can be incredibly helpful, so I suggest adding it to your bookmarks for easy access later.
