My experience with Halo Reach on PC requires me to limit my frame rate to 60 frames per second due to the refresh rate of my monitor, which is only 60 Hz. Despite activating this in-game setting, the game frequently suffers from noticeable stuttering and overall poor performance—it feels significantly slower than 60 fps. I can bypass this cap and achieve smooth, consistent performance above 60 frames, however, this results in screen tearing because my monitor isn’t a high refresh rate display. Could anyone shed light on why restricting the frame rate to 60 causes such detrimental performance issues?

Hardware specifications:
GPU: RX 580 8GB
CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
RAM: 16GB

To prevent the game from entering fullscreen mode, go to the compatibility tab within the game’s executable file and turn off fullscreen optimizations. Additionally, activate in-game vertical synchronization or enforce Vsync within your graphics card’s settings.

I steer clear of V-Sync because of the delay it causes. Nonetheless, experimenting with a frame rate limit of 58 or 59 frames per second might be more effective than using 60, though I’ve never found it necessary myself.

Experiencing delays in responding was a problem if vertical synchronization proved beneficial. I previously played on 60Hz displays, capping my frames at 59 with Vsync and consistently experienced no input lag.

I've always struggled with V-Sync, finding it quite apparent. Limiting frames offers a decent solution because while it doesn't completely remove screen distortion, it avoids adding delays. Nevertheless, experiment with different settings to discover what suits your needs best.

My experience with VSync is similar; I find it unusable. When running at 60 frames per second, simply limiting my frame rate worked adequately but lacked the fluidity I desired with VSync enabled. I consistently kept my frames just below the refresh rate, which eliminated any noticeable lag from VSync.

I'm uncertain about establishing a specific frame rate of 59, because the game’s settings provide only two choices: 60 FPS or an unlimited rate.

Using Nvidia Inspector and MSI Afterburner, I can restrict frame rates. Your Radeon software should also offer an FPS limiter feature.
