Hey everyone, I'm feeling a bit frustrated right now. I just spent around $30 on Cities Skylines for Steam. The game doesn't launch at all—Steam briefly flashes as if trying to play for a couple of seconds before returning to online. There are no error messages, just nothing happening. If anyone has any tips or fixes, that would be really helpful. My system specs: i7 4770K, R9 290, 8GB RAM, running on Windows 8.1 64-bit.

Do you want to check the game cache integrity? Click the game, select Properties, then navigate to the Local Files tab.

Run it in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and observe its behavior. Access the .exe file, then adjust its properties to the compatibility section. You can also reach it via the verification tab, selecting "browse local files" instead of the default action.

On the first tab, after right-clicking the game in Steam and opening properties, set the screen height to 400 and the screen width to 800.

Do you have the AMD program Raptr installed? Click on the In-Game Layout to try it again. If it doesn’t work, remove Raptr and it should function properly afterward.

The game is installed on your 290 device. It isn't recognized by Intel IGPs.

He probably configures his PC so the main screen is the 290. The system won’t automatically switch to the iGPU unless you connect a cable and adjust the default settings in BIOS.

Many users on the paradox forums faced problems that got fixed by ensuring the game ran on their dgpu. /shrug just throwing it out there
