i'm trying to figure out why this friend's pc keeps crashing in the game. he runs ff7 remake with mods, has a 7900 x8x64 at 4k max in d11 and 64gb ddr5. from what i see, the game first uses all 24gb of his vram, then starts using more ram (no performance loss because of 4k60 cap), and eventually fills up one of his 32gb ram sticks. when that happens, the game crashes with an out-of-memory error, sometimes forcing a hard reset due to unresponsiveness.

i ran memtest86 on the ram twice—both passed without errors (though i don’t have time for four full passes on 64gb). the dram and vram tests also showed no issues. my thought is that the game is filling up the pagefile up to 1600mb, which then causes a crash because of the pagefile size limit.

does ue4 only use 32gb max? I can’t seem to find any hardware errors reported. anyone know if there’s a fix for this memory runaway problem?

when it occurs, the Nvidia overlay exe frequently stops working. the overlay isn't actually needed, though i believe the process continues in the background without notice. it seems to use the MiQoto DLL along with K and Reshape in a DLL chain.

It seems you're experiencing an issue with 56GB of combined memory usage between VRAM and system RAM, which might indicate a memory leak caused by a faulty mod.

I was worried about what might happen. The issue is that the game runs for about 90 minutes, sometimes up to 2 hours before it crashes when the memory fills up. It’s not clear if fixing a mod would help or if it would require many days of testing.

This appears to be a memory leak problem. The only solution seems to be identifying which module is causing the issue.

After extensive testing, it was discovered that the special K and NVIDIA overlay do not function together in FF7Remake. Fixing the issue by removing the special K resolved the problem.
