Installed Rage 2 on my R9 390, getting around 54 FPS which is acceptable. However, every 1-2 seconds it lags a bit. It doesn’t run smoothly—sometimes it freezes for less than a second. I’ve seen the frame rate jump from about 16.6 ms to 33.9 ms. What’s going on? Is it my monitor or my graphics card? I reduced settings to high, but the problem still persists. The FPS fluctuates a lot and the frame rate issue is noticeable. I really want to play without buying new cards. Any advice or help would be appreciated!

Verify GPU VRAM consumption to ensure it remains within limits. Assess RAM utilization for similar concerns, confirming stability and performance. Monitor CPU and GPU temperatures to confirm they're operating normally without excessive throttling.

Your i7-6700K runs at a specific clock speed. Is the 3200 MHz mentioned the overclocked RAM rate or its standard setting? Are you using the latest version of the R9 390 8GB chip? Did you perform any overclocking adjustments?

I mentioned my settings exceed the lowest system requirements, don't be rude. It's running at 2 GHz... Add another file or media.

I've never discussed minimum requirements. Why would you reduce a K CPU's speed? Lowering your CPU speed won't give the performance you need. I'm not trying to irritate you. I'm exploring ways to fix your issue. If you address my questions, more assistance can come. Another point: does the 1-2 second delay happen while standing still in Rage 2, or when explosions occur?

Instead of checking the speed of each part, search for the information online. All parts function at their standard pace. Response to the second question: NO.

You’re likely not increasing your CPU speed beyond its base rate. Right now it runs at 4.0 GHz while playing Rage 2, and it could easily reach higher speeds depending on your system. Whether you can push it further depends on your motherboard’s capabilities. Overclocking RAM or the GPU would also improve performance, but you’ll need to check compatibility first. If you’re not seeing lag in still frames, that’s a positive sign. In Rage 2, frame rates drop significantly at higher settings, especially during intense effects. To boost performance, adjust your graphics options and look for the settings that most impact FPS. Start with Medium or OFF for shadows and lighting, and tweak accordingly. This approach lets you maximize visual quality without sacrificing speed. If you’re unsure about your hardware limits, watching some relevant videos can help you find the right balance. Overclocking a K CPU is straightforward once you confirm your system supports it—just ensure your motherboard allows it.
