The entire system repeated the action, making the overclock unreliable, but I managed to play for a longer duration.
Weeeeeelllll, that's what I did and I think it fixed it most of the time, but I haven't really done a lot of testing. The main issue is how long I've been using this clock, but to keep playing optimized games well, I have to go back to the default settings. That means my performance will be worse in other games that don't use all my cores. It's really annoying, and yes, I know I should get an upgrade, but as a regular student who isn't working, it won't happen soon.
It seems like your overclock is unstable. Just reduce the speed. Unity is a very challenging game. My i7-4790k reaches 4.7GHz and that's quite high, especially since it was a top model when Unity came out. If you can't hit 60fps, lower some of the settings.
Maybe the last thing I want to mention is that I think I landed a really solid silicon lottery, especially with my CPU. But it’s been steady—from when I first started, using Cinebench, it scored over 500, then after switching to the turbo clock (4Ghz) it reached 633. The highest clock speed I managed was around 4.6, which gave me 722. If I had a better board and better cooling, I’d be performing much better… though it’s not great for my electricity bill and the extra power usage compared to newer chips. That’s just how it is with an FX CPU.
