While playing GTA V, the social club launcher appears and then closes once logged in. After that, Task Manager shows GTA V, but the game doesn't actually launch on screen. Before this, the "GTA5.exe has stopped working-dialog" message appears. He recently upgraded to version 15.4 Beta, but that didn't resolve the issue. He also can't play Guild Wars 2, which seems unrelated. His laptop is an HP Pavilion DV7 (exact model not specified), the graphics card appears to be 7690M, but it dropped to 6700M after a driver update.

I believe the recent updates from AMD might have introduced significant issues, possibly requiring a downgrade.

It seems unlikely he could play GTA on a PC.

But my friend who owns a GT510 can handle it. That card boasts 96 shaders! Wow, he claims to get 20 FPS. The 7960m from my friends' laptop is seriously better. I’m really trying to assist him and help him play GTA with me.

The 20fps isn't great, right? Your friend might want to check out options like the Lenovo y40 or y50.

The other friend who isn't using that laptop runs at 20 frames per second and claims everything is okay.

Knowing the precise model would be very useful, are you sure it has sufficient RAM for the game?

20 frames per second is inferior compared to a console.

OP is curious about the situation with GTA V not launching, regardless of frame rate performance. Nice work staying off-topic!

It looks genuine. I suggest removing the drivers entirely using DDU (also set Windows drivers to default before cleaning and restarting) and then reinstalling the beta version. If it still fails to detect the card properly, switch to an older driver until a newer one is released.
